2025-2026 Teacher of the Year
Debbie Francis
I have been in education for 28 years, 24 of them as a Teacher and all of them right here in Sumter. I have worked at three schools during my career and have now been selected as Teacher of the Year at each one.
I am married to Ray Francis, a retired High School Band Director. We just celebrated our 40th wedding anniversary! We have two children, Melody and Ray, and are expecting our first grandchild soon!
Having a student look at me when doing his work and say, “Wow, this is something I can really use! I want to learn more about this.” is an amazing feeling. Being remembered and thanked by former students and their families when they see me out in the community is very rewarding. Taking trips all over the country (Disney World, Universal Studios, Savannah St. Patrick’s Day Parades, New Orleans Mardi Gras Parades, and even a Presidential Inaugural Parade) and making memories with both my family and our Band students has been amazing. I don’t think any other career has the potential to do so much good and touch so many lives as ours does. I am a proud SASI teacher!
